Please Read Before You Register!

You must be a member of LIFE before you can register for classes. Unless specifically marked in the calendar, registration is required for all courses, walks or other events you wish to attend, even for those that are free of charge. The membership year for The LIFE Institute runs from July 1 to June 30 and costs $80.

Occasionally, due to circumstances beyond our control, class time, location and/or dates may change.

1. How do I search for a course online?

Courses are listed alphabetically. You can search by course name, category, or day of the week by using the search fields on the top right of the page.

 

2. Can I download the Course Calendar?

You can download the Course Calendar by clicking on the link in the right hand rail on the COURSES page.

 

3. Can I get a printed copy of the Course Calendar mailed to me?

A PDF document of each calendar is available for you to print each semester. Alternately, you can view the calendar online.

 

4. When and how long is each term?

LIFE’s active year is divided into four terms: Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring.

Summer Term
July – Mid August (approx. 6 weeks)
In addition to the regular course offerings, Summer Term usually features additional short (3-4 session) special interest courses.

Fall Term
Late September – Early December (approx. 8 weeks)
Most Fall courses take place on or near the Ryerson campus and last between 6-10 weeks.

Winter Term
Late January – Late March (approx. 8 weeks)
Most Winter courses take place on or near the Ryerson campus and last between 6-10 weeks.

Spring Term
Late April – Early June (approx. 8 weeks)
In addition to the regular course offerings, Spring Term usually features additional short (3-4 session) special interest courses.

Walks are also offered in the Spring Term and continue through the summer months.

 

5. How Our Registration Process Works :

ALL COURSES WILL OPEN ON THE SAME DAY/TIME  

6. Priority of Registration and Waitlists
All registrations are processed as received, on a first received, first processed basis. If a course is full, you can add your name to a waitlist. If space becomes available, the LIFE office will contact those on the waitlist in priority sequence by phone or email. If you are still interested in taking that course, our office administrator will register you and process your payment.

7. How do I register online?

You will need:

A computer or portable device (such as an iPad or tablet) with internet access; although some members find that registering using a smartphone is possible, registering using a DESKTOP or TABLET is IDEAL.
a personal email address to set up a membership account and sign in;
a valid credit card for payment.

Confirmation of registration: Confirmation is immediate when you register online.


8. How do I register by mail? 
Currently, the LIFE office is virtual, so we cannot accept registrations by mail.

9. Can I register for classes in-person, by email, phone or fax? Unfortunately, no. We cannot accept in-person, by email, phone or fax registrations. If you are having difficulty registering, please send an email to info@thelifeinstitute.ca, and someone will be in touch with you to assist you.

10. I registered for the wrong course by accident. What should I do?

If you registered for the wrong course by accident, please send an email as soon as possible to info@thelifeinstitute.ca. Our office administrator will be able to assist you.

11. I can’t register for courses or events... When I click the Register button nothing happens.

Ensure that Javascript is turned on in your web browser. Javascript is required to register for courses and events.

12. I’d really take courses but I’m on a tight budget. What can I do?

LIFE’s Ombuddy will assist members who have special financial needs. If you are experiencing difficulties paying your fees, or if you have any other problems you wish to discuss confidentially, please contact the LIFE office at info@thelifeinstitute.ca.

13. How do I withdraw from a course?

To withdraw from a course, you will need to notify the LIFE office in writing by email sent to info@thelifeinstitute.ca  .

A refund of course fees, minus a $20 administration charge, will be made if your written application to withdraw is received by The LIFE Institute no less than three (3) business days before:

the first session of a two to four week course or

the second session of all courses that last five weeks or more.

Please Note:
Refunds are not available for single-session courses, walks or special events.
Refunds are not available for Theatre Alive once the block of tickets has been purchased.
Course materials, admission, or other unique costs included in the fee may not be refundable.
• Refunds are made by credit card only.
Cash refunds, vouchers, or credit notes are not available.
