- About Us
|What We Do|
The LIFE Institute has grown from a small community of a few hundred in 1991 to a membership of almost 2500 today. We strive to provide a high quality learning, socializing and contributing environment for our members.
Lifelong learning, leadership and personal growth opportunities for adults 50+.
The LIFE Institute delivers high quality educational programs for older adults covering a wide variety of subjects in the Arts, Humanities, Sciences, Technology and Contemporary Issues.
Many of our courses are led by LIFE volunteers. These "Facilitated Courses" are an excellent opportunity for members who are seeking leadership opportunities to prepare and direct a course; class participants may also be asked to research and present a topic.
We also offer "Lecture Courses", which are given by a professor or acknowledged expert in the field. Lecture Courses usually include a question and answer period, some discussion and may include a reading list.
A caring, inclusive community for educational enrichment.
The opportunities for personal development go far beyond our course offerings and includes clubs, walks, travel and events. Join one of the friendliest 50+ learning programs in the city, and find out what it truly means to live LIFE to its fullest!
Our core goal is to offer exceptional educational experiences for older adults, regardless of their educational background or special needs. Every effort is made to accommodate members with physical or hearing difficulties.
Financial assistance is also available Contact our Ombuddy for more information.
Opportunities for innovation in life-long learning
The LIFE Institute is affiliated with Ryerson University's G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education in a synergistic relationship. Our members receive a true "campus" experience with access to lecturers, first-rate facilities and services, including Ryerson's library, sports centre and a dedicated computer education lab (CEL). And, as the largest of the Chang School's Programs for 50+, the LIFE Institute is an influential partner in Ryerson's Continuing Education community.
Each year we build on our existing partnership with Ryerson by contributing funds for programs, services and equipment that are priorities for LIFE and 50+ Learners. In this way LIFE continues to strengthen its leadership position and ensure new learning opportunities for older adults well into the future.
A not-for-profit, volunteer-run charity.
Our membership plays a vital role in our continuing existence: it is our members' skills, leadership and desire for personal growth that are responsible for the operation and administration of the Institute.
Our members are actively encouraged to participate in the many facets of LIFE, by volunteering to help at social events, becoming a class host, serving on a committee, facilitate a course, or becoming a Member of the
